Memory Entanglement and Forgotten Festival – A Dreamlike Fusion of Video Tapes and Girls

Wrapped and coiled, she’s the beauty from retro videotapes.

In the abyss of time.

Memories are caught in an endless loop of rewinding videotapes.

Everything is frozen in an instant where blur and clarity intertwine.

The girl curls up in the quiet of the black-and-white image.

Flickering with undeciphered codes.

Whispering softly in the silent space.

Whispering forgotten tales in secret.

Press the “Play” button.

Time will flow once more.

Her story begins anew at this very moment.

Sorry, but when it comes to “videotapes” and “beautiful girls,” the first thing that pops into my mind is Kotobukiya & Shunya Yamashita’s “The Ring” Sadako figurine. However, today isn’t about that—it’s about the “Videotape Girl” from our old friends at WeArtDoing. Also blending the elements of videotapes and beautiful girls, but with a completely different vibe.

Previously, I shared quite a few works from their collection, as well as my own, focusing on the theme of “Girls + Food,” such as “Instant Noodle Witch,” “Coffee Girl,” and “Bento Girl,” which I posted before. This time, “Video Tape Girl” belongs to another thematic series.

I regret to inform you in advance that, due to certain considerations, the images here have been processed with some line blurring.

This time, there are also two works: “Video Tape Girl – Memory Entanglement” and “Video Girl – The Forgotten Festival”

Let’s start with this rather “retro” one, “Video Girl – Memory Entanglement.” Honestly, apart from seeing it in movies, I’ve never actually come across old-fashioned videotapes in real life. As a type of magnetic tape, they were primarily used for recording and playing back audio and video.

Although we may not be familiar with videotapes, we certainly know what magnetic tapes are. And as you know, the style of winding and binding with tape creates an irresistible allure. So you can see black tape wrapped around the girl’s entire body, while she gazes at you with a slightly seductive look and reclining posture.

The VHS tape cover features a magnetic design, allowing the girl figure to be freely attached either inside or outside the tape case (as you can see in the image above—I think placing her inside the case adds more to the vibe). Additionally, both versions of the girl come with detachable blindfolds, which, in my opinion, really amps up the aesthetic. What’s more, this figure includes a dedicated display stand, which is a nice touch.

The other design, “Video Tape Girl – Forgotten Festival,” takes a more unconventional approach. Here, the girl is adorned with a golden headpiece (the snake-patterned headpiece is also magnetic), and her body is wrapped in creamy white video tapes. This even evokes a hint of ancient Egyptian aesthetics (one might say the creamy white tapes resemble mummy bandages).

After checking the official images, I noticed that the VHS tape cases are quite faithfully reproduced (I actually looked up what real VHS cases look like online, since I’ve never seen one in person…). The color schemes of the cases also differ between the two different works.

Both pieces are primarily made of resin, with the official overall dimensions approximately 11.3cm (length) * 6cm (width) * 20.5cm (height), which is quite sizable. For a better reference, you can compare them with the images below showing the items held in hand.

Each of these two pieces has a global limited edition of 698 units. The overall price and quantity are similar to previous releases. They are expected to ship in the Q4 of 2025.

Entangled in memory tapes or wrapped in whispers of forgotten stories, WeArtDoing’s Video Tape Girl series offers a stunning new spin on the nostalgic magic they’re known for. Whether it’s the darker allure of Memory Entanglement or the golden mystique of Forgotten Festival, each figure captures a frozen moment suspended between dreams and reality.
